 SILICON GRAPHICS FORMS NEW OEM OPERATIONS ORGANIZATION;
 COMPANY STRENGTHENS PROGRAMS FOR OEM PARTNERS
 MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Aug. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Silicon Graphics Inc. (NYSE: SGI) today announced that it has created a new organization within the company to provide a single point of focus for managing all Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) business. The OEM Operations organization will provide a structure for managing Silicon Graphics OEM partnerships. The new organization will be headed by Todd Johnson, director of OEM Operations under John Kohler, vice president and general manager, Business Systems Division.
 "Our OEMs provide a strategic component for our business and it is critical for us to support them in as many ways as possible," said Kohler. "We are leveraging the OEM infrastructure that MIPS created some five years ago and have combined it with Silicon Graphics' OEM efforts. We feel this will provide an exceptionally strong team for supporting our major channel partners."
 OEMs have been a foundation for MIPS Computer Systems' business since 1987. The recent merger between MIPS and Silicon Graphics has spurred the development of this new organization with the goal of achieving solid relationships with OEM partners and to support the partners' effort with their customers.
 Current major worldwide partners in the OEM organization include: Control Data Systems Inc., Daikin Industries Ltd., Digital Kienzle Computersysteme, Siemens Nixdorf Informationssysteme AG, and Tandem Computers Inc.
 "Our objective with this new organization is to promote channel harmony by unifying our customer-oriented activities," said Todd Johnson. "We want to help our OEMs better meet the needs of their customers by providing them with our experience and proven track record in OEM support."
 The new OEM Operations organization will continue to focus customer support for all Silicon Graphics' product lines as well as the recently added Magnum 3000(TM), Magnum 4000(TM) PC-50 and SC-50, Millennium 4000(TM) PC-50 and SC-50, RC3230(TM), RC3330(TM), RC3350(TM) and RC3360(TM). These powerful systems are specifically designed for reseller customers by offering them flexibility in tailoring unique solutions for a variety of target markets including visual simulation, research, mechanical computer aided design, database and commercial business solutions. Several OEM partners will continue to offer R6000 products for specialized high performance commercial application environments. In addition, the new organization will manage the transition between MIPS' operating system, RISC/os(TM) and Silicon Graphics' IRIX(TM) operating system.
