SILICON GRAPHICS ANNOUNCES IMAGEVISION LIBRARY 2.0

SILICON GRAPHICS ANNOUNCES IMAGEVISION LIBRARY 2.0
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Silicon Graphics Inc.

(NYSE: SGI) today announced the ImageVision Library 2.0 API, a new version of Silicon Graphics' object-oriented application programmer's interface for image creation, processing and display.
ImageVision Library Release 2.0 is a new version of the company's image processing software tools targeted at image processing application developers. The new version includes support for graphics systems from Silicon Graphics, as well as the implementation of parallel processing techniques to utilize Silicon Graphics' powerful multi-processor computer systems.
With Release 2.0, the ImageVision Library toolkit is engineered to support all graphics subsystems available from Silicon Graphics, including the company's new RealityEngine(TM) graphics system. With RealityEngine, the toolkit can take advantage of interactive warping, convolutions, histogram transformations, logical operations, and data and color space conversions.
The ImageVision Library 2.0 tool set also features multi-threading mechanisms that result in performance gains on all Silicon Graphics' computer systems. Using a multi-processor computer, the ImageVision Library toolkit implements coarse grain parallel processing techniques to process separate subsections of an image on each available processor.
The ImageVision Library tool set provides a consistent interface across all of Silicon Graphics' RISC-based systems. It allows users to easily implement image processing applications. Maintaining a constant image-processing programming interface (API) across all Silicon Graphics systems, the product features a demand-driven, page-oriented execution model engineered to support coarse-grained parallel processing with symmetric multi-processing architectures.
The ImageVision Library API is aimed at imaging software developers, scientists, researchers, and system integrators in the earth sciences, military, medical, pre-press and scientific environments. The ImageVision Library toolkit is priced from $495 per license and will be available in fourth quarter 1992.
