SILICON GRAPHICS ANNOUNCES 38 PERCENT INCREASE IN REVENUE AND 37 PERCENT INCREASE IN NET INCOME FOR SECOND QUARTER

 SILICON GRAPHICS ANNOUNCES 38 PERCENT INCREASE IN REVENUE
 AND 37 PERCENT INCREASE IN NET INCOME FOR SECOND QUARTER
 MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Silicon Graphics Inc. (NYSE: SGI) today reported net revenues totaling $188 million for the quarter ending Dec. 31, 1991. This represents an increase of 38 percent over revenues of $136 million for the same quarter a year earlier. Net income for the quarter increased 37 percent to $14 million, or $.49 per share, compared with net income of $10 million or $.49 per share in the same period for the prior fiscal year.
 For the first six months of this fiscal year, the company reported net revenues of $340 million, an increase of 35 percent over the same period for the prior fiscal year. Net income was $24 million for the six month period ended Dec. 31, 1991 or $.79 per share, compared with net income of $20 million or $.93 per share in the same period for the prior fiscal year.
 Edward R. McCracken, Silicon Graphics' president and chief executive officer said, "This is typically a strong revenue quarter for Silicon Graphics. Our unit shipments for the current quarter increased by 50 percent over the immediately prior quarter. Sales of our new low-end Indigo systems exceeded our expectations. We've only just entered this low-priced market and it's extremely exciting for us to be gaining market share as quickly as we are."
 The company generated $20 million in cash during the quarter, resulting in a cash and cash investments balance of $261 million at Dec. 31, 1991.
