Dramas come and go, but some stick around against all the odds.

Taggart is one of them. Its lead actor, Mark McManus, died in 1994, but the series continued without him for years.

Although Silent Witness didn't have a death to contend with, its main star, Amanda Burton, quit the show after appearing in the first eight series.

However, Emilia Fox, below, stepped into the breach as Dr Nikki Alexander, and has proved a worthy replacement.

In fact, the drama is still going strong - and if you needed any proof of that, then here it is.

Silent Witness is back for its 15th series, and it kicks off with a two-part case involving Leo's old friend, Professor Lizzie Fraser.

He's devastated by her suicide, which may be tied to the murder of her sister, a forensic scientist who was stabbed to death at a crime scene a decade ago.

Nikki is down too - she attends her father's memorial, but is soon back in the fray when the team are asked to investigate a triple murder at a farmhouse.

DNA found on the scene matches that of The Wraith, a female serial killer - but Nikki suspects something fishy is going on.
