SIERRA RESEARCH DIVISION RECEIVES FOLLOW-ON CONTRACT
SIERRA RESEARCH DIVISION RECEIVES FOLLOW-ON CONTRACT BUFFALO, N.Y., March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- LTV Aerospace and Defense
announced today that its Sierra Research Division has received a $1.68 million follow-on contract to continue the qualification process as a second source of production for Data Multiplex Systems. The contract was awarded by the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command.
In October 1988, Sierra received an initial subcontract from Autonetics Electronics Systems of Rockwell International Corporation, Anaheim, Calif. to produce microprocessor controlled information transfer systems. At that time, the U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command selected Sierra to qualify as a second source of supply for the Data Multiplex System which the command is procuring. In October 1991, Sierra received a $9.49 million contract from the U.S. Navy to produce one Data Multiplex System. Used aboard ship, the Data Multiplex System translates and transmits information regarding status of the fire control, sonar, navigation, propulsion and steering systems. This system eliminates hundreds of miles of heavy and costly cables, connectors and connection boxes needed for data transfer, resulting in a drastic reduction in ship weight. The work, which will be done at Sierra's facility in the Buffalo suburb of Cheektowaga, will begin immediately and be completed in December 1992. Sierra Research is a prime developer, integrator and producer of electronic systems and products for worldwide military and commercial use. It is a division of LTV Aerospace and Defense Company which also manufactures aircraft structure components, missiles, rockets, space systems and military vehicles. -0- 3/4/92 /CONTACT: Judith A.
