SIEMENS STROMBERG-CARLSON ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF SS7/CLASS FIELD TRIAL AT CANBY TEL.
SIEMENS STROMBERG-CARLSON ANNOUNCES COMPLETION OF SS7/CLASS FIELD TRIAL AT CANBY TEL. BOCA RATON, Fla., March 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Siemens Stromberg-Carlson announced today the successful completion of its Independent Telephone company field trial testing Signaling System No. 7 (SS7) and Custom Local Area Signaling Service (CLASS) features on the DCO (Digital Central Office) switching system. The trial, at Canby Telephone Association in Oregon, involved a network upgrade to Release 17.2, and included testing of the new software release generic; Inter/Intra LATA Trunk Signaling; and Service Switching Point-800 Service. Additionally, the field trial tested A-link Consolidation with Clear Creek Mutual Tel. based in Redland, Ore. A-Link Consolidation provides the host office at Canby Tel. with basic signaling transfer capability, allowing the A-Links from Clear Creek Mutual to consolidate signaling traffic at Canby Tel. From there, traffic is integrated onto one or more link pairs to the Signal Transfer Point (STP). By consolidating the message traffic through a single DCO system, it is possible to reduce the total number of signaling links to the STPs. Out-of-band signaling creates a platform for CLASS features, providing subscribers with a greater level of control over incoming and outgoing communications. Ten CLASS features were tested at Canby, including Calling Number Delivery; Automatic Callback; Automatic Recall; and Customer Originated Trace. "Now is the right time for us to introduce this new technology to our customers," said Eugene L. (Larry) Cole, president of Canby Tel. "By offering faster, more efficient out-of-band signaling, we will open up a wide range of new services, thereby securing new revenue opportunities. "The field trial itself went smoothly, there were no outages, and the project turned over in advance of the projected date." Siemens Stromberg-Carlson designs, develops and manufactures a complete line of digital voice, data and transmission products. Based in Boca Raton, Fla., the company has manufacturing and other functional groups in Lake Mary, Fla., and Albuquerque, N.M. Siemens Stromberg-Carlson is the third-largest supplier to the U.S. public telecommunications networks. -0- 3/23/92 /NOTE TO EDITOR: DCO is a registered trademark of Siemens Stromberg-Carlson./ /CONTACT: Roger Hall, 407-955-6706 or Alice Andors, 407-994-7433, both of Siemens Stromberg-Carlson/ CO: Siemens Stromberg-Carlson ST: Florida IN: TLS SU:
