SHURGARD INFORMATION MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS OPENS AT SODO CENTER
SEATTLE, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Shurgard Information Management Systems said today it has expanded its operations into downtown Seattle with the opening of a new 400,000-square-foot facility at the landmark SODO Center, site of the former Sears Roebuck & Co. distribution center.
The expansion involves the largest single commercial real estate lease signing in the Seattle market during the fourth quarter of 1991, according to sources at Coldwell Banker Commercial Real Estate Services, which handled the transaction.
A division of Seattle-based Shurgard Storage, one of the largest storage companies in the United States, Shurgard Information Management Systems (SIMS) provides information management services and storage of critical business documents for a number of the Northwest's top corporations, law firms, accounting firms and municipalities.
According to Doug Adams, general manager of SIMS, the new facility is a key element in the company's expansion plans. "Access is important to our clients, and our facility at SODO Center offers rapid retrieval and delivery of documents to clients located in Seattle's downtown core," said Adams.
The new facility joins SIMS' original 90,000-square-foot, high- tech facility and corporate headquarters in Redmond, Wash. SIMS is the largest provider of combined information management services and document storage systems in the Northwest. Shurgard Information Management Systems is planning expansion into the Portland, Ore., and Spokane, Wash., markets during the first half of 1992.
"SIMS is a great fit for us," said Frank Stagen, principal of Nitze-Stagen & Co., a real estate development firm and managing partner of the 1.3-million-square-foot SODO Center. "Warehouse tenants have been one of our primary target markets, and SIMS represents a top-of-the-line tenant in that category."
