SHOTS FIRED IN SUPER STORE RAID; Arrests after police chase drama.
ARMED raiders fired shots outside one of Coventry's busiest supermarkets as New Year shoppers watched in horror.
The masked gang pounced on a security van outside Asda in Brade Drive, Walsgrave, at about 11am yesterday.
They threatened security staff with the gun before escaping with a large amount of cash.
Police, alerted by a 999 call, were on the scene in minutes and spotted the getaway vehicle.
After a dramatic chase they managed to stop the car and arrested two men. Officers were last night still looking for a third. Cash and a gun were recovered.
Detective sergeant Steve Francis of Stoney Stanton Road station said police were piecing together exactly what had happened.
He said: "A delivery was being made and offenders went up to the security staff and threatened them. One gun was discharged.
"The offenders made off in a stolen blue Peugeot 206 and were chased by police."
Police are not disclosing the amount of money taken but the cash along with a gun has now been recovered.
Shoppers were flung into confusion and witnesses reported hearing either one or two shots.
Witnesses or anyone who has information about the robbery can contact Stoney Stanton CID on 0845 113 5000.
