ELECTRONICS BOUTIQUE'S total revenue for the fourth quarter ended Jan. 29 rose by 20.5 percent to $809.0 million from $671.5 million for the same period last year. Comparable-store sales increased 3 percent. Sales were led by a 22 percent increase in software as well as the launch of the Nintendo DS. Fourth-quarter net income for the retailer was $38.1 million, which includes a one-time, cumulative, non-cash charge of $2.7 million after tax related to the company's lease accounting. Excluding this one-time charge, net income was $40.8 million, compared with $39.4 million for the same period last year. Full-year total revenue increased roughly 24 percent to nearly $2 billion from $1.6 billion in fiscal 2004. Full-year net income was $52.3 million, which includes a one-time, cumulative, non-cash charge of $2.7 million after tax related to the company's lease accounting. ELECTRONIC HOUSE EXPO concluded the most highly attended show in its six-year history last month at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., the Consumer Electronics Association claimed. EHX Spring 2005 attracted more than 7,900 attendees, a 12 percent jump over last year. The show is produced by EH Publishing & Events and sponsored by the CEA's TechHome Division. In addition to the attendance numbers, the exhibit floor was at its largest with 285 exhibitors covering 143,000 gross square feet of space, an 18 percent increase over the EHX Spring 2004 show floor...

THE CONSUMER ELECTRONICS ASSOCIATION this month projected that 3 million Digital Cable Ready sets will be sold factory-to-dealer in 2005, building on the installed base of more than 1 million sold last year. "The DTV transition is booming with more than 16 million DTV units sold since introduction," said Gary Shapiro, CEA president and chief executive officer.
