SHOROUK AIR SELECTS PRATT & WHITNEY PW2040 ENGINE
EAST HARTFORD, Conn., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Shorouk Air, a newly

formed charter and cargo airline based in Cairo, Egypt, has selected the PW2040 engine to power four new Boeing 757 aircraft.
The order for eight installed engines and two spares is valued at approximately $54 million. Deliveries begin in December 1993. Shorouk, a joint venture of EgyptAir and Kuwait Airways, selected one passenger and three cargo versions of the 757. The airplanes will be used on routes serving North America through Europe and the Far East.
"We are very gratified that Shorouk's management chose the PW2040 for its first 757 order," said David McGonigle, vice president-Middle East for Pratt & Whitney. "This engine's excellent fuel burn and outstanding reliability give 757 operators a competitive edge. We look forward to a long relationship with Shorouk as its fleet grows."
Since its introduction, the PW2000 family of engines has won 51 percent of the 757 engine market. In addition, a military version of the engine, the F117, powers the U.S. Air Force's new C-17 transport airplane.
Pratt & Whitney is a unit of United Technologies Corporation of Hartford.
