SHOPKO STORES REPORTS JULY SALES
SHOPKO STORES REPORTS JULY SALES GREEN BAY, Wis., Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- ShopKo Stores, Inc.
(NYSE: SKO) reported sales for the four weeks ended Aug. 1, 1992, decreased 1.8 percent to $116.5 million from $118.6 million during the same period last year. Comparable store sales decreased 5.1 percent.
For the cumulative 26 weeks ended Aug. 1, 1992, total sales increased 2.5 percent to $743.0 million from $724.7 million for the same period last year. Comparable store sales for the cumulative 26 weeks ended Aug. 1, 1992, increased 0.3 percent over the same period last year. As noted in the June sales announcement, July sales were soft as a result of ShopKo moving its largest back-to-school advertising promotion, a 56-page direct mail catalog, to August. This shift was due to Labor Day and school opening dates occurring later this year compared to last year. Because of this shift in promotional activity, the company expects excellent August sales.
