SHOP TILL YOU DROP IN BANGKOK: THAILAND OFFERS WIDESPREAD DISCOUNTS
ON SHOPPING, MEALS, AND ACCOMMODATIONS ON QUEEN'S BIRTHDAY
BANGKOK, Thailand, Aug. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Bangkok, long renowned as a shoppers' paradise, offers even greater value for tourists during Thailand's "The World, Our Guest" promotion on Aug. 12 celebrating the 60th birthday of Her Majesty, the Qued retailers, discounted or complimentary food, and even free sightseeing tours.
More than 150 retailers are participating in the program, from designer boutiques in shopping malls to teeming stalls in the city's famed outdoor markets. At leading department stores Central, Thai, Daimaru, Robinson, Isetan and Zen, visitors will receive a 10 percent discount on virtually all merchandise. Duty free shoppers will find all items marked down 10 percent at the Tourism Authority of Thailand Duty Free Shop.
Shoppers for Thai silk, handicrafts, gems and jewelry, antiques, tailor-made clothes, leather goods and shoes will find discounts and gifts from dozens of specialty shops and boutiques including Jim Thompson's and Design Thai, the Chitralada shops, and the Narayana Phand handicrafts center.
Bangkok's distinction as a shoppers' paradise is perhaps matched only by its reputation for world-class dining. Hungry shoppers will find still more discounts and special offers on authentic Thai and international cuisine -- even fast food favorites.
For golfers, the Rose Garden Country Resort, just outside Bangkok, is offering complimentary green fees on Aug. 12 and 13, and free elephant rides!
Participating retailers will display "The World, Our Guest" posters indicating special discounts or tourist promotions. Visitors arriving at Bangkok Airport on Aug. 12 will be presented with "The World, Our Guest" tags, qualifying them to take advantage of the special discounts offered.
"This unprecedented effort by the city's shops and restaurants is part of a broader gesture of hospitality by all sectors of Thailand's tourism industry to mark Her Majesty the Queen's birthday," explains Dharmnoon Prachuabmoh, governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
"This special day provides us with the opportunity to showcase the hospitality and wide range of unique attractions that are available in Thailand year round which have made our beautiful country one of the world's most popular holiday destinations."
