SHINTECH EXPANDS PVC CAPACITY AGAIN AT FREEPORT, TO 2.375 BILLION POUNDS
HOUSTON, June 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Chihiro Kanagawa, president of Shintech, Inc., announced today that a new expansion of capacity, the sixth at Shintech's Freeport, Texas, poly(vinyl chloride) plant, is scheduled to start up during October 1992.
This expansion, which was authorized by the Shintech board of directors in 1990, is for 375 million pounds of annual capacity and will increase Shintech's total capacity to 2.375 billion pounds per year.
Kanagawa, who is also president of Shintech's parent company, Shin- Etsu Chemical Co., Ltd., stated, "With the completion of this expansion, the Shin-Etsu group will maintain its position as the world's largest producer of PVC, with a total group capacity of 3.5 billion pounds per year."
The exceptional growth which Shintech has enjoyed (from 220 million pounds per year capacity in 1974 to the projected 2.375 billion in 1992) was attributed by Kanagawa to continuous improvement in the Shin-Etsu PVC process by Shin-Etsu chemists and engineers and to outstanding performance by Shintech employees and suppliers. He expressed, especially, his personal appreciation to all of the loyal Shintech customers without whose aggressive growth Shintech's success would have been impossible.
