SHIMANO AMERICAN CORP. TO SIGN PARTNERSHIP ACCORD WITH U.S. BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT AT LAS VEGAS INTERBIKE SHOW

 IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- United States Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Director Jim Baca and Shimano American Corp. President Yoshi Shamano will sign a cooperative agreement at the Las Vegas Interbike Show as the formal beginning of a recreational cycling and conservation partnership on the 270 million acres of public lands administered by the BLM.
 "Shimano's partnership with the BLM is an outstanding example of public-private cooperation that benefits all Americans," Baca said. "With Shimano's help, we will improve recreational cycling opportunities on public lands and emphasize responsible resource use for the benefit of future generations."
 The BLM and Shimano will work together implementing a "grass roots" education program that emphasizes conservation, land use ethics, safe riding and the increased involvement of young people and families in the sport.
 Shimano of Shimano American Corp. also welcomes the agreement. "We are very pleased to be the first member of the cycling industry to sign a formal agreement with BLM on behalf of recreational cycling and conservation," stated Shimano. "We appreciate the progressive attitude of BLM that encourages private sector participation on behalf of public resources."
 BLM is a leading public lands agency and has been at the forefront of mountain biking initiatives since 1990. Shimano is a major manufacturer of bicycle components and accessories.
 The signing ceremony will be held at the Las Vegas Convention Center, Room N 109 on Sept. 18 at 11:30 a.m. with a media reception to follow.
 BLM/Shimano Red Rock Canyon Tour
 At 5 p.m. there will be a special mountain bike ride for members of the press to meet personally with BLM and Shimano representatives. The short ride will be held at the Oak Creek Canyon of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Transportation and bikes will be provided. Pre-registration at the BLM Interbike Show Booth No. 3673 is required due to limited openings.
