 SHERWIN-WILLIAMS RESPONDS TO HURRICANE
 VICTIMS IN SOUTH FLORIDA
ATLANTA, Aug. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- In the aftermath of Hurricane Andrew, as residents of South Florida come to grips with the devastation of their homes and towns, help is coming in from around the country. Among those chipping in, Sherwin-Williams' Southeastern Division headquarters in Atlanta, has for the past two days dedicated Sherwin- Williams trucks to deliver food and water to the ravaged area.
Working with the Red Cross, and in conjunction with Atlanta's "Family to Family" program, delivery trucks that normally ship paint and related goods have been making trips into Dade County with emergency supplies since Tuesday morning. The relief program was initiated by Atlanta television stations WSB and WAGA.
"It's just something one company can do to help," said Dick Wilson, president and general manager of the Sherwin-Williams division. "There are countless people in need down there, many of whom are our own employees."
Sherwin-Williams, which has over 40 stores in Dade and Broward counties, had two stores completely demolished and 15 stores damaged by the powerful hurricane.
As clean-up and rebuilding efforts begin, the company's Orlando factory is gearing up for an increased demand for paint. Sherwin- Williams' new distribution center in Winter Haven is also prepared to work around the clock to provide goods to the stricken area.
According to Wilson, stores throughout Dade and Broward counties will be open seven days a week for extended hours. "We will be offering special credit terms for any victims of the hurricane," he said. "And prices, in effect have been frozen."
Isaac Greer, manager of the Sherwin-Williams distribution center in Buford, Ga., is helping to coordinate the Florida relief efforts. He reports that the company has also recently dropped off four truckloads of water, as well as a truckload of emergency supplies to the Salvation Army in Dade County. "We're finding that every little bit helps," he commented.
The caravan of Sherwin-Williams trucks from Atlanta will continue to deliver much-needed food and water through next week.
With headquarters in Cleveland, Sherwin-Williams has satisfied the painting needs of do-it-yourselfers and professionals for over 125 years. More than 2,000 stores in 48 states make Sherwin-Williams the nation's largest single-source supplier of high quality paints, painting supplies and brand name wallcoverings, floorcoverings and window treatments.
