SHELL CANADA LTD. FILES STATEMENT OF CLAIM CALGARY, Alberta, Dec. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Shell Canada Ltd.
(AMEX, Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver: SHC) filed a Statement of Claim in Alberta courts today against Alberta and Southern Gas Co. Ltd. for breach of natural gas contracts, resulting in a loss of income to Shell Canada. The Pacific Gas Transmission Company and the Pacific Gas and Electric Company were also named as defendants in the claim.
Shell is suing the parties for approximately $70 million in damages for failure to purchase the required volumes of gas from Shell's Waterton Complex during the previous contract year. Shell has also requested that a restraining order be placed on A & S to prevent it from buying "discretionary" sources of gas from other suppliers until it has satisfied its contract obligations with Shell. Director of Natural Gas Business Center, Fred Klein, said, "Shell has met its contractual obligations and we expect A & S, PGT and PG & E to do the same." Shell is one of approximately 190 suppliers in the A & S supply pool. A & S buys gas in Alberta to transport and sell to customers primarily in California. A & S and PGT are wholly owned subsidiaries of PG & E. -0- 12/10/91 /CONTACT: Adrienne Lamb of Shell Canada Limited, 403-691-3892/ (SHC.) CO: Shell Canada Limited ST: Alberta IN: OIL SU:
