SHELL BEGINS PRODUCTION AT FAIRWAY FIELD NEAR MOBILE BAY
HOUSTON, Dec. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Shell Offshore Inc., in partnership with Amoco Production Company, began producing natural gas today from its Fairway Field in state waters south of Mobile, Ala. Shell Offshore, as operator of the project, is the second company to begin production from the prolific natural gas reserves near the mouth of Mobile Bay.
"We expect production to increase in the next few months to about 200 million cubic feet per day, making the Fairway Field our single largest natural gas producer in the Gulf of Mexico," said Robert L. Howard, president, Shell Offshore Inc. "Our daily Gulf of Mexico natural gas production will increase about 15 percent."
Shell Offshore has five wells in the field on Blocks 113 and 132, about three miles south of Dauphin Island. The wells were drilled to a depth of about 22,000 feet.
The gas will be treated at Shell Offshore's Yellowhammer Gas Plant in south Mobile County, and will be sold or transported through Mobile Gas Service and the Transcopipeline systems. Connection of the Gateway pipeline system to the plant is expected in early 1992. Recently, Shell Offshore significantly boosted its oil and natural gas output with the start of production through permanent facilities at its Bullwinkle platform offshore Louisiana. Bullwinkle's daily output of about 55,000 barrels of oil accounted for a 35 percent increase in Shell Offshore's oil production.
Shell Offshore Inc. is an affiliate of Shell Oil Company. Amoco Production Company, which has 35.7 percent interest in the Fairway Field project, is the petroleum exploration and production subsidiary of Amoco Corporation (NYSE: AN).
