SHELDAHL SIGNS $34 MILLION, MULTI-YEAR AGREEMENT

NORTHFIELD Minn., June 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Sheldahl, Inc. (NASDAQ: SHEL), said today that it had signed a letter of intent with a leading automotive connector manufacturer. Under the terms of the agreement, starting in mid-1994, Sheldahl will provide thin, flexible electronic shields for engine control modules. The shields are made from Sheldahl laminates and will be fabricated at the company's Northfield advanced manufacturing facility. The engine control modules, which will be manufactured for a big three automotive manufacturer's 1995 models, eliminate electrical/electronic interference which could shut down the car's engine. They represent an industry breakthrough in electronic system interconnection.
The agreement will run for more than four years and is expected to be worth in excess of $8.5 million per year to Sheldahl. Both companies anticipate that the market demand for the engine control module will increase significantly in the near term.
Sheldahl is the leading producer of flexible interconnects in the United States. The company's core technology involves the conversion of basic materials into technical laminates that are sold as foils and tapes. The company also uses these laminates as the base for such products as antennas, electronic shielding, insulation, flexible interconnects, and specialized fabrications. Sheldahl has strategically located design and technical centers in the Western, Midwestern and Eastern regions of the United States, and in Great Britain, as well as an administrative/sales office in France.
