SHELDAHL DIRECTOR NAMED TO NATIONAL ACADEMY OF ENGINEERING

 NORTHFIELD, Minn., April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Sheldahl, Inc. (NASDAQ: SHEL), said today that Dr. John G. Kassakian, a member of Sheldahl's board of directors and Professor of Electrical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Director of its Laboratory for Electromagnetic and Electronic Systems, has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering. Kassakian was cited by the Academy for his contributions to the field of power electronics (the use of electronic devices and materials to control energy) and his leadership in research, education, and the development of industrial alliances. The National Academy of Engineering was established in 1964 under the charter of the National Academy of Sciences as an organization of outstanding engineers.

 Kassakian was the Founding President of the Power Electronics Society of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), serves as the U.S. representative to the European Power Electronics Society, and is the recipient of the IEEE Centennial Medal, and the William E. Newell and Distinguished Service awards of the Power Electronics Society. He was elected a Fellow of the IEEE in 1989 and in 1993 was awarded an IEEE Distinguished Lectureship. Kassakian has published extensively in the area of power electronics and is co-author of the textbook Principles of Power Electronics.
