SHAUN MALONEY has signed a long-term deal at Wigan, with boss Roberto Martinez saying the best is yet to come from the golden oldie.
The Scotland midfielder was rewarded with a new contract until the summer of 2015 after maturing into one of the best players in the Latics squad.
And Martinez said: "Shaun is a young 30-year-old. He had his time at Celtic and Villa and learned, and now he is physically at the best moment of his career. His understanding of the game is also at its prime.
"Shaun could have represented Holland or Spain or any of the most gifted teams around the world because of his tactical ability. He is also an example to the other players."
