SHARKEY TO LEAVE SSCI; NATIONAL SEARCH COMMITTEE FORMED TO FIND SUCCESSOR

CLEVELAND, April 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Steel Service Center Institute (SSCI) Chairman Arnold W. Bradburd announced today that a national search committee made up of SSCI board members has been formed to find a successor to President Andrew G. Sharkey, who will resign from the association June 30, 1993.
"We are naturally disappointed to lose Mr. Sharkey, who will become president of the American Iron and Steel Institute this summer. Under Sharkey's guidance, the Steel Service Center Institute has blossomed into a dynamic force that represents both its members and its members' needs well. But, we have in place the infrastructure to secure an outstanding replacement," said Bradburd.
"Additionally, an energetic and dedicated SSCI staff, quality programs, a solid financial balance sheet and great momentum will ensure that all member services continue uninterrupted during our search," said Bradburd.
Sharkey joined the SSCI in April 1978 as director of education. He was named executive vice president in May 1979 and president in 1981.
The Steel Service Center Institute is a trade association representing the interests of the steel service center industry. America's metal service centers are the largest single customer group of the domestic steel producers and serve the metal supply needs of more than 300,000 manufacturers and fabricators through plant locations nationwide. Steel service centers represent a $24 billion industry and ship 25 percent of all steel moving through steel distribution channels, including nearly 30 percent of all carbon industrial steel products and 45 percent of all stainless steel products produced in the United States.
SSCI represents about 400 leading metal service center companies operating more than 1,000 plants, plus 50 international members and 135 associate member mill producers. SSCI members are located in 24 chapters and one subchapter in every industrial area in the U.S.
