SHAQUILLE O'NEAL TO COMPETE IN REEBOK
 STOUGHTON, Mass., June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Shaquille O'Neal,

basketball All-American at Louisiana State University and the projected number one pick in the upcoming National Basketball Association draft, has signed an agreement to compete in Reebok products. The agreement was announced here today by Roberto Muller, president of Reebok Sport, and O'Neal during Reebok's national sales meeting.
"Shaquille excels in all phases of the game, and the overwhelming consensus around the league is that he will be an absolutely great player," said Muller. "There has not been this much excitement and sense of anticipation over a player coming into the NBA in many years. Having Shaquille wear Reebok footwear further reinforces our commitment to producing the best performance basketball products in the market," said Muller.
"I am very pleased and proud to be associated with Reebok," said O'Neal. "Reebok has an outstanding reputation for producing high- performance basketball shoes. I am very impressed by their products, marketing programs and their positive image in the sports community," O'Neal said.
As part of the multi-year agreement, Reebok will design and produce a Shaquille O'Neal line of basketball footwear and apparel. O'Neal also will play a major role in community programs sponsored by Reebok.
A two-time consensus first-team All-American and Southeastern Conference Player of the Year in 1991 and 1992, O'Neal was chosen by the Associated Press as winner of the Rupp Award, symbolic of college basketball's National Player of the Year, in 1991. At 7 foot 1 inch and 294 pounds, O'Neal averaged 21.6 points per game during his three-year career at LSU. He shot 61 percent from the field while averaging over 13 rebounds per game.
An intimidating force on the defensive end, "Shaq" set an SEC record for career blocked shots with 412 and holds the league's single-game record for blocked shots with 12 against Loyola Marymount University in his freshman season. He blocked five or more shots in a game 45 times, and his 11 blocked shots against BYU in the opening round of the 1992 NCAA Championship set a tournament record.
Consistency was a hallmark of O'Neal's play at LSU. He was the first player since Charles Barkley to lead the league in rebounding three straight seasons and recorded six career triple-doubles (recording double figures in points, rebounds and blocked shots in a single game). Dating back to the final four games of his freshman season, O'Neal scored in double figures in 63 consecutive games.
O'Neal graduated from Cole High School in San Antonio, Texas, where he led his team to an undefeated season during his senior year and the state Triple A championship. He averaged 32 points, 22 rebounds and eight blocked shots and was named a Parade All-American in 1989.
"'Shaq' is a tremendous addition to Reebok's basketball marketing program which already includes many of the NBA's top players and an outstanding lineup of coaches on the professional and college levels," said Muller. "Shaquille will play a major role in our future product development and marketing program."
