SHANGHAI PRAXAIR BAOSTEEL NAMES KRICHBAUM MANAGING DIRECTOR

 DANBURY, Conn., Jan. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Charles M. Krichbaum, 46, has been elected managing director of Shanghai Praxair Baosteel Inc., the joint venture company of Praxair, Inc. (NYSE: PX), Baoshan Iron & Steel Corp., and Shanghai Yue Pu Industry Co. in Shanghai, People's Republic of China.
 Formerly director of service business for Praxair, Krichbaum has been with the company 24 years and served in a number of technology, sales and business management positions. He earned a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from Purdue University.
 Shanghai Praxair Baosteel, Inc. is Praxair's second joint venture in the People's Republic of China, preceded by Beijing Praxair, Inc., which is the country's largest industrial gas company.
 During 1994, Shanghai Praxair Baosteel will build cylinder-filling facilities, customer-service facilities and administrative offices in the Shanghai area. By the end of 1995, the company also will be operating a 300 ton-per-day (330 metric tons) liquefier.
 Praxair is the largest producer of industrial gases in North and South America, and one of the largest worldwide, with annual sales of $2.6 billion. The company also is a leading worldwide supplier of ceramic and metallic coatings and powders.
