SFA eye Pijpers for new kids role.

DUTCHMAN Arno Pijpers has e m e r g e d a s a ma j o r contender to become the SFA's new Performance Director.

Hampden beaks announced at the publication of Henry McLeish's review of youth football last April that they would be creating the role.

And whoever lands the top job will be tasked with overseeing youth development and supervising a brand new academy structure.

With the SFA closing on an a p p o i ntme nt , t he we l l -travelled Pijpers is on the sixman shortlist with the coach having a wealth of experience in the game at all levels.

Dual The 51-year-old, a former Feyenoord player, star ted coaching at youth level with the Dutch FA before taking on a dual role as boss of Estonia and club side Flora Tallinn.

Pijpers then returned to his homeland when appointed technical director of Utrecht.

Another twin role followed as boss of Kazakhstan and FC Astana where he won the Kazakhstan Super League title in 2006.

Af ter he was sacked by Kazakhstan in 2008 his last job was as boss of Willem II in the Dutch Eredivisie but he left due to ill health.

However, Pijpers could be set for a comeback by landing the Hampden post.
