SEXUAL HARASSMENT SUIT FILED AGAINST OWENS BROCKWAY, INC. ON BEHALF OF FORMER EMPLOYEE

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, a sexual harassment suit was filed by the Philadelphia law firm of Lovitz and Gold, P.C., on behalf of Rosemary D. Weymouth-Mannis, a former sales-service representative at the Malvern, Pa., office of Owens Brockway, Inc.
Sidney L. Gold, Weymouth-Mannis' attorney, alleges that Owens Brockway, in a textbook case of sexual harassment, created "a hostile and offensive work environment and imposed intolerable working conditions on Weymouth-Mannis."
According to the suit, beginning on July 1, 1988, when Weymouth- Mannis was first hired at Owens Brockway, until the date of her termination on Aug. 29, 1991, Weymouth-Mannis was subjected to sexually offensive behavior by district manager Michael Day. This behavior included instances of sexual advances and sexually offensive physical touching. "Upon Weymouth-Mannis' announcement of her plans to be married," said Gold, "a continuous course of retaliation against Weymouth-Mannis began. Mr. Day treated her in a condescending, chauvinistic manner calculated to cause her emotional distress and to force her resignation."
One example of this abuse, cited in the suit, was a remark attributed to Day in connection with Weymouth-Mannis' pending marriage and stated intention to have a family in which he said, "I should have hired you neutered."
"Weymouth-Mannis maintained a satisfactory job performance rating throughout her employment, in spite of the abuse she was subjected to on a regular basis," said Gold "Her only flaw was her refusal to accede to the sexual advances of Mr. Day."
As a direct result of the unlawful behavior of Day, Gold said, Weymouth-Mannis is suing for emotional distress and lost wages in addition to punitive damages.
