SEX DOCTOR: I need a lift in bed.

Byline: Dr Catherine Hood

Dear Dr Cath

I'M a 60-year-old man and have been thinking about taking Viagra to help my performance in bed.

But my GP is a friend and I feel too shy to ask her. I have heard you can also get alternatives on the internet. Are they safe, and do they work?

I'D advise you against buying drugs over the internet for two reasons.

First, you can never be sure you're getting the real deal and secondly erectile dysfunction can be a sign of more serious health problems.

Damage to the blood vessels to the penis is a common cause of impotence and is often linked to damage to the heart as well.

This means you need a more general health check-up. If you don't want to see your friend then book in see one of the other doctors at your surgery. Viagra is a great drug but make sure you take it safely.
