SEVERN TRENT WINS LONG ISLAND CONTRACT
GLEN COVE, N.Y., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Island Recycling and Environmental Corporation (IREC), a joint venture between Severn Trent, a major international environmental company, and a Long Island contractor, has won a 20-year contract to upgrade and manage wastewater treatment facilities and a solid waste incinerator in Glen Cove, it was announced today.
A spokesman for IREC said, "Severn Trent was specifically sought out to join in this venture based upon their worldwide reputation in this area. They provide the type of experience, commitment and financial stability needed to make a project such as this a total success.
"We could not be more pleased with the relationship. We've hit the ground running at the facility. Planning is well under way for plant renewals and the actual performance of the wastewater treatment facility has already been improved substantially by our staff."
Severn Trent's Chief Executive Officer Roderick Paul said, "We intend to be a world leader in the water industry. The Glen Cove project is a sound business in its own right and will provide us with further growth in our expanding United States operations."
Severn Trent is one of the world's leading water and waste management companies with an annual revenue of more than $1.5 billion. Severn Trent Water Limited is the group's core business, employing the bulk of its 10,000 workforce and providing water services to more than 8 million people in the heartland of Britain.
Severn Trent's U.S. organization, based in Limerick, Pa., has been retained by the venture to operate and manage the facilities for the term of the contract, adding to its current municipal water and waste treatment contracts in Pennsylvania, Maryland and South Carolina.
