SEVEN-PASSENGER CAMRY STATION WAGON INTRODUCED BY TOYOTA (Product Announcement)

SEVEN-PASSENGER CAMRY STATION WAGON INTRODUCED BY TOYOTA
CHICAGO, Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- The 1992 Toyota Camry station wagon

was unveiled here today at a news conference prior to the opening of the 1992 Chicago Auto Show.
The seven-passenger wagon joins the all-new mid-size Camry sedan line-up introduced in September 1991. The Camry wagon, to be built at Toyota's Georgetown, Ky., manufacturing plant starting in March, will go on sale this spring.
The Camry wagon will be available in two trim levels, Deluxe and LE. A 2.2-liter, 130-hp four-cylinder engine will be standard, while a 3.0-liter 185-hp V6 engine will be available on LE models. All models will be equipped with Toyota's four-speed electronically controlled automatic overdrive transmission, which interacts with the engine computer for nearly imperceptible gear changes.
Unlike some wagons in its class, the new Toyota Camry offers an optional third seat that folds up for seven-passenger seating or folds down for additional cargo space.
The rear storage area is fully carpeted and has a color-coordinated cargo cover for increased security. Both the second and third seat can be folded flat when maximum cargo area is desired. The spacious wagon has a total EPA interior volume of 140.8 cubic feet with both seats folded and a cargo volume of 40.5 cubic feet behind the second seat.
Tall occupants will find the Camry wagon exceptionally comfortable. Front seat headroom is 39.2 inches and second seat headroom is 38.8 inches. Hip room for front, second and third seat passengers is 56.0, 57.0 and 41.6 inches respectively.
Standard features on the Camry wagon include: driver-side airbag, outboard three-point seat belts including the third seat, independent front MacPherson strut and dual-link rear suspension and power rack and pinion steering. On the V6 equipped LE, four-wheel disc brakes are standard. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) are available on all models.
The rear liftgate features a child protector door lock. Dual rear wipers and a rear window defogger are standard. A roof rack is optional.
Extensive powertrain, body and interior refinements subdue noise and vibration, giving the Camry wagon the kind of quiet ride associated with luxury cars. For example, hollow structural areas along the roof edge are filled with foam rubber to help reduce wind noise. The Camry chassis and body utilize strategically placed steel-and-resin sheets and asphalt-sandwich panels for noise absorption. Subframes for the powertrain and rear body isolate engine and road vibration and noise.
The 1992 Toyota Camry wagon is built on a wheelbase of 103.1 inches, has an overall length of 189.4 inches and a curb weight of 3,131 pounds with the four-cylinder engine. Ground clearance is 5.1 or 5.3 inches, respectively, on four- and six-cylinder models.
Standard tires on four-cylinder models are 195/70HR14 all-season steel-belted radials. Standard tires on V6 models are 205/65HR15. On the LE, 15-inch alloy wheels are optional.
