The new label Decca Broadway recorded Michael John LaChiusa and George C. Wolfe's new musical "The Wild Party" last week for release on May 23.
Polygram and Universal merged over a year ago, and the latter side included MCA and Decca, which put out "Oklahoma!" in 1943.
What's next for the new label?" `Seussical' is something we're looking at," says Chris Roberts, chairman of Universal Classics Group. "Obviously, there are a lot of Seuss projects that flow through the Universal family." He mentions Seuss Landings at the Universal theme park in Orlando and the studio's new Jim Carrey movie, based on "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."
"The next few years, I think it's going to be Seuss wherever you go," says Roberts.
