SERVING SOFTWARE AND BOSTON SCIENTIFIC ANNOUNCE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP

MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Serving Software Inc. (NASDAQ:SERV) announced today that it has formed a strategic alliance with Watertown, Mass.-based Boston Scientific Corporation (NYSE: BSX). As a result of the exclusive agreement, Serving Software has developed and will support a PC-based inventory management system that Boston Scientific will make available to its customers.
"Recently, medical devices have been a target for cost-reduction programs," explains Joe Ciffolillo, chief operating officer of Boston Scientific. "In response, we have identified opportunities for lowering costs through improved inventory management, more accurate tracking of patient charges and better tracking of costs to specific procedures."
The Inventory Management System, developed in conjunction with Boston Scientific, tracks stock levels by product code of all manufacturers and provides suggested reorder points based on desired on- hand quantity levels. The system also has the ability to track and maintain procedural information useful for credentialing physicians and residents. In addition, acutal costs of procedures can be tracked.
The Inventory Management System was designed so that non-technical hospital staff could focus on the performance of medical procedures rather than inventory or computer management. The system was tested for nearly one year and has successfully reduced inventory levels at each of the three test hospitals.
The changing healthcare environment continues to place a strong emphasis on cost reduction," said John Haugo, president and CEO of Serving Software. "We feel the combination of our companies' technical expertise creates an ideal situation for both Serving Software and Boston Scientific as well as the healthcare facilities in need of inventory management systems. We are pleased to have the opportunity to partner with a company that has as strong a market presence as Boston Scientific."
Minneapolis-based Serving Software develops, markets and supports computer-based software systems for hospital resource management. The company's systems, installed in more than 750 hospitals worldwide, are designed to ensure efficient resource management at both departmental and hospital-wide levels. Hospitals use the systems to increase productivity, reduce operating costs, enhance revenue opportunities, improve quality assurance and enhance patient care.
Boston Scientific is a worldwide developer, manufacturer and marketer of medical devices. The company's products are used in a broad range of interventional medical specialities including cardiology, gastroenterology, pulmonary medicine, radiology, urology and vascular surgery.
