SERGIO BENDIXEN NAMED POLITICAL ANALYST FOR TELEMUNDO

HIALEAH, Fla., Nov. 16 ~PRNewswire~ -- Internationally renown political pollster and commentator Sergio Bendixen has been named Telemundo's political analyst, effective Jan. 1, announced today Gustavo Pupo-Mayo, senior vice president for news and public affairs.
As a political analyst for the past seven years, Bendixen has conducted myriad polls throughout the Spanish-speaking world and gained a sterling reputation for calling local, national and international elections with uncanny precision. Pupo-Mayo called his track record "unparalleled either in the United States or Latin America."
"Bendixen's expertise will be key to positioning our network throughout the hemisphere as the authority in the field of political coverage and analysis," Pupo-Mayo said. "He will be a critical element in the process of building a first-class news division."
Bendixen cited his past professional ties to Pupo-Mayo and network President~CEO Joaquin Blaya as one of the main reasons for joining Telemundo. Before coming to Telemundo, both men were instrumental in creating Univision's news operation and in recruiting Bendixen for that network.
"Above all else, I feel challenged by the opportunity to play an important role in the development of a network that is taking off nationally and internationally," Bendixen said.
Among the numerous Latin American elections that Bendixen has called based on his polls, some of the most significant have been the following: El Salvador's 1985 legislative race, whose outcome he predicted exactly; presidential races that same year in Peru, Guatemala and Honduras; Colombia's 1986 presidential elections and Chile's 1988 democratic referendum.
Besides his reputation as a pollster, Bendixen also is widely respected for his significant political experience in Latin America, which includes stints as a key advisor to Oscar Arias'; 1986 presidential campaign in Costa Rica and Christian Democrat Eduardo Fernandez's 1988 presidential bid in Venezuela.
