 SENIOR LOTUS MARKETING EXECUTIVE D.J. LONG
 NAMED VICE PRESIDENT OF MARKETING FOR APPLIX
 WESTBORO, Mass., May 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Applix, Inc. today announced the appointment of D.J. Long as its vice president of marketing. Long will be responsible for channel marketing, public relations, advertising, product marketing and product evangelism at the company and will play a key role in guiding Applix to a leadership position in the emerging office productivity software market.
 With extensive management and marketing experience at Lotus Development Corp., Long is well-qualified for this position at Applix. At Lotus, Long defined customers' product requirements, sales strategy and implementation, and sales channel support for Lotus 1-2-3 for UNIX. In addition, he recently was in charge of defining and implementing all VAR marketing-related activities for Lotus Notes.

Long's familiarity with the UNIX and VAR worlds, his experience in implementing successful channel distribution strategies, and his extensive knowledge of international and vertical markets make him ideally suited for this position. He will enable us to accelerate the process of expanding our customer base and distribution channels to meet growing market demand," said Jit Saxena, president, founder and chief executive officer of Applix.
 Previously, Long was product sales manager responsible for the sale of Lotus 1-2-3 for UNIX. From 1985 to 1988, Long was with Prime Computer, first as area manager for alternate channels sales and later as senior manager of marketing programs, heading a group that designed and implemented new name account marketing programs worldwide with a special emphasis on a Prime UNIX-based system.
 Long also worked in managerial and marketing support positions at Access Technology and Honeywell Information Systems. He has a bachelor's degree in finance from Boston College.
