SENDAI PUBLISHING GROUP TO LAUNCH 'HERO' MAGAZINE IN JUNE

Magazine Will Offer Most Comprehensive Consumer Overview
Available of Comic Book, Film & Video Game Industries
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Sendai Publishing Group, the Chicago-based publisher of North America's five leading publications covering the burgeoning electronic gaming industry, will expand the scope of its editorial coverage with the launch in June of Hero Illustrated, a highly ambitious new four-color monthly magazine which will provide the most comprehensive coverage available of the multibillion dollar comic book, animation, film and video game industries. The announcement was made today by Steve Harris, founder and publisher of Sendai Publishing Group Inc., which includes among its publications the best-selling electronic entertainment magazine, Electronic Gaming Monthly, which boasts a readership of nearly 1 million.
In addition to offering consumers -- primarily young males -- the most substantial insight available concerning new and forthcoming comic books and comic book trends, as well as a focus on motion picture, television, animation and video game products, Hero will also provide previews and reviews of comic books and an innovative price guide that will track the value of comics.
With each issue expected to exceed 150 pages, Hero will additionally benefit from Sendai's proven blend of high-tech graphics, special promotions and delivery of exclusive information, all of which have seen the company experience remarkable growth despite the hardships faced by so many other magazine publishers over recent years. In keeping with the company's continued diversification, Sendai will also be launching several other new magazines this year, to be announced shortly.
With an initial print run in excess of 400,000, Hero will offer comic book enthusiasts unprecedented insight into the latest new releases and artists well before the competition. To be published by Harris, the new magazine will feature breaking news, in-depth interviews, colorful sneak previews and a special price guide giving readers helpful suggested values for all current and future releases.
To be available specifically to retail outlets at a $3.95 cover price, Hero will -- like Sendai's electronic entertainment-oriented publications -- also feature candid reviews by a staff of young writers with a longstanding interest in and comprehension of the industries they are covering.
Hero will further benefit from Sendai's cost-effective and highly unique pagination and printing techniques, allowing the company to produce ready-to-print, four-color film for far less than the standard industry-wide average.
Last October, Harris -- under his Decker Publications banner -- launched Electronic Games, a highly sophisticated magazine covering the electronic entertainment arena for college-age and older enthusiasts. The new publication, already enjoying widespread success and influence, joined Sendai Publishing Group's other nationally and internationally popular magazines, including Electronic Gaming Monthly, the definitive electronic entertainment publication; Computer Game Review, the first magazine to cover CD-Rom technology on a consistent basis, as well as all forms of computer entertainment; Mega Play, the best-selling magazine revolving around Sega video game product; and Super NES Buyer's Guide, which has taken the lead in covering all Super Nintendo product. The five magazines, with a combined readership in the millions, are available nationwide and in some 30 nations around the world.
Sendai Publishing Group Inc., and Decker Publications Inc., are both privately held companies.
