SEMITOOL ANNOUNCES STOCKHOLDER LAWSUIT FILED

KALISPELL, Mont., March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Semitool, Inc. (Nasdaq-NNM: SMTL), announced today that a class action lawsuit has been filed against the company by a purported purchaser of the company's stock. The complaint alleges that the company issued misleading statements concerning its business and prospects in violation of Montana law during the June 29 through October 30, 1995, period.

The complaint, which was filed on February 26, 1996, in the Montana Eleventh Judicial District Court, Flathead County, Kalispell, Montana, does not specify any amount of damages. The company believes that the lawsuit is without merit and intends to contest the action vigorously.

Semitool, through its four operating divisions, designs, manufacturers, markets and services equipment used in the fabrication of semiconductors and related products including thin film heads, compact disc masters, flat panel displays, hard disk media and ink-jet print heads.

The Common Stock of the company, which is headquartered in Kalispell, Montana, is traded on the Nasdaq National Market System under the symbol "SMTL."
