 SELECTED FINANCIAL SERVICES ELECTS THREE NEW OFFICERS
 CHICAGO, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Selected Financial Services Inc.,


today announced the election of three new officers who currently serve as senior investment professionals supporting the Selected Funds family of no-load mutual funds:
 -- Theodore C. Kauss Jr., CFA, senior vice president and
 senior portfolio manager of Selected American Shares, a
 stock-oriented fund recognized by Morningstar as a
 "5-Star Performer";
 -- James M. Smith, CFA, senior vice president and senior
 portfolio manager of Selected Special Shares, a stock-oriented
 fund that invests primarily in small to mid-sized companies;
 and
 -- Richard J. Freeman, CFA, first vice president and director
 of research, who manages a team of analysts supporting the
 investment process.
 All three individuals are part of the Selected Funds portfolio management team headed by James V. Moeller, chief investment officer, who guides the overall investment philosophy of the Selected Funds.

 THEODORE C. KAUSS
 Serving Continental Bank's investment division for nearly 30 years, Kauss most recently was director of research and funds management. While at Continental, he managed investment portfolios for high net worth individuals, foundations, pension funds and the Trust Department's commingled equity funds -- together totalling approximately $600 million.
 Kauss has extensive portfolio management experience with a broad range of distinctive investment objectives, including large-capitalized common stocks, mid-cap stocks, small emerging growth stocks, and convertible securities.
 Kauss holds a BBA from Loyola University and an MBA from Northwestern University.
 JAMES M. SMITH
 Smith comes to Selected with 20 years of investment experience, most notably 14 years at Sears Investment Management Company. Smith served as vice president of the Venture Division where he managed a $300 million emerging growth fund and directed venture capital investments for the pension trust.
 Smith received a BS from Washington & Lee University and an MBA from Northwestern University.
 RICHARD J. FREEMAN
 Freeman comes to Selected Financial Services with more than 14 years of investment research experience, most recently at Kemper Financial Services. His extensive background of directing independent investment research activities in a wide range of industry sectors makes him especially qualified to lead this key function for Selected Financial Services.
 Freeman holds an MBA from Michigan State University and an MS in accountancy from Western Michigan University.
