SEITEL ACQUIRES SEISMIC LIBRARY OF UNIVERSAL SEISMIC ASSOCIATES

HOUSTON, Oct. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Seitel, Inc. (NYSE: SEI), one of the largest providers of U.S. seismic data to the petroleum industry, today announced that it has acquired the library of seismic surveys owned by Universal Seismic Associates Inc. (NASDAQ: USAC).
The USA library, acquired for an undisclosed amount of cash, totals just under 13,000 miles of mostly two-dimensional onshore seismic surveys.
"The majority of the surveys cover Alabama and Mississippi that significantly adds to Seitel's data in that region, plus there are surveys of Texas and Louisiana that complement Seitel's already extensive Gulf Coast Coverage," said Paul A. Frame, president and chief executive officer.
"In fact, we expect to generate sales immediately from the USA library," he added, "just as we did from the four 2D libraries we acquired in the second half of last year."
Seitel both creates seismic surveys and markets from its expanding data base. The company also has moved aggressively into the advanced three-dimensional seismic field, including the establishment of its own state-of-the-art 3D operation, which is serving both customers and Seitel's own participation in the production of oil and gas reserves.
