SEISMED INSTRUMENTS ANNOUNCES THE PUBLICATION OF A NATIONAL MULTICENTER STUDY ON STRESS SCG AND THE INTRODUCTION OF A NEW STRESS TESTING SYSTEM

MINNEAPOLIS, March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Seismed Instruments (NASDAQ: SEIS) announces the publication of a Multicenter Clinical Study on stress seismocardiography (SCG) testing. The article, published in the March 1 issue of the American Journal of Cardiology, is entitled "Diagnostic Accuracy of Seismocardiography Compared to Electrocardiography for the Anatomic and Physiologic Diagnosis of Coronary Artery Disease During Exercise Testing." It represents a significant achievement and culminates three years of research. The study began in September 1989 and evaluated 661 patients undergoing stress testing at five university centers. Results of the study show that the addition of the stress SCG test to the routine stress electrocardiogram (EKG) significantly improves the accuracy of the stress test for the diagnosis of coronary artery disease. The Multicenter Study confirms an earlier study conducted at the Minneapolis Heart Institute on 1,221 patients. The company's medical director, Dr. George Diamond, director of the Cardiac Stress Laboratory at Cedars- Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, said, "This peer review journal article will increase awareness in the medical community for this new cost-effective diagnostic procedure."
In line with the company's focus on research and product development, the company has recently completed a prototype of the new SE-4000. The SE-4000 combines state-of-the-art stress EKG testing with SCG testing. The combination of the EKG and SCG into one system provides physicians with testing versatility that is not available with systems currently on the market. This comprehensive stress system will be introduced for the first time at the annual meeting of the American College of Cardiology, March 15-18, in Anaheim, Calif. The company plans full market release following FDA 510(k) clearance and additional capital for production of the system. Seismed Instruments is a public company traded on the NASDAQ market system under the SEIS.
