SEIKO INSTRUMENTS OFFERS STUDENT LEARNING TOOLS FOR BACK-TO-SCHOOL

TORRANCE, Calif., July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- With the back-to-school season in mind, Seiko Instruments USA Inc. is offering a variety of hand-held electronic organizers, reference tools and learning aids for electronics-conscious students.
"Seiko's hand-held products are convenient and easy to use," said Dave Thomasson, director of marketing for Seiko's Consumer Products Division. "They are part of a variety of electronic gadgets that students will be bringing to school this year, such as calculators, pagers and CD players."
To help students keep track of class schedules, test dates, homework assignments and school functions, Seiko offers its pocket-sized, electronic Student Organizer (DF-3100). It features a bright, two-line 24-character dot-matrix display. It includes a calculator with a "running total" memory that stores totals when the organizer is shut off.
From Seiko's Word Power collection, the American Heritage Dictionary/Personal Edition (WP-5400) provides more than 130,000 definitions for more than 70,000 entry words. It includes an advanced phonetic spell checker, electronic flashcard tutor, a personal dictionary for customized terminology and protective lid with instructions.
With a bright, easy-to-read three-line display and scrolling capability, the WP-5400 is the first compact electronic dictionary that can be purchased for a price comparable to a hardcover dictionary.
The Word Power Collection also includes the American Heritage Dictionary-based Spell Checker (WP-1100) and Spanish/English Spell Checker (WP-1300). The Roget Thesaurus/Spell Checker (WP-1200) adds more than 500,000 synonyms to WP-1100.
For students taking foreign language courses, Seiko offers the Spanish/English Translator (TR-2200), German/English Translator (TR-2100), French/English Translator (TR-2300), and the Italian/English Translator (TR-2400).
Based on The Random House's German, Spanish, French and Italian dictionaries, each product translates more than 40,000 words and displays useful idioms, parts of speech and accent marks. Each features an easy-to-read, 31 character scrolling dot-matrix display.
The above products include a typewriter-style (QWERTY) keyboard with raised rubber keys, bi-directional metric converter, and calculator with currency converter. They are available through consumer mass- merchandising outlets. At a price range between $20 and $60, these products can be found in catalog, department and office product stores.
