SED Agrees with SAANYS Position on Math Regents Students Eligible for Regents Diploma Despite Faulty Exam.

ALBANY, N.Y., June 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The School Administrators Association of New York State (SAANYS) is pleased to learn from the State Education Department that the Department has agreed with, and subsequently implemented, the SAANYS position released on June 25 which called for allowing seniors (and juniors) who have met all other requirements for a Regents diploma to be eligible to receive such a diploma if they earned a course grade of 65 or higher in Math A, despite their performance on the June Math A Regents Exam.

"SAANYS acknowledges the complicated situation caused by this exam and credits the Department for acknowledging these errors and working to correct them," said SAANYS Executive Director Richard Thomas. "However, SAANYS has learned of cases where students were denied the opportunity to participate in commencement because of the faulty test. It is more than unfortunate that students had to pay such a high price for a testing situation out of their control. SAANYS looks forward to working with the Department and other education leaders to assure that such a situation never occurs again."

SAANYS represents over 6,500 school administrators, supervisors, and coordinators. As a professional association, SAANYS provides direction, service and support to the membership in their efforts to improve the quality of education and leadership in New York State schools.
