SECURITY ENVIRONMENTAL SYSTEMS AWARDED HAZARDOUS WASTE CONTRACT EXTENSION

GARDEN GROVE, Calif., June 21 /PRNewswire/ -- Stephen I. Grossman, president of Security Environmental Systems (NASDAQ: SENV), announced today that the Defense Re-utilization and Marketing Service (a unit of the Defense Logistics Agency) has elected to exercise its second-year option of a multiyear hazardous waste pick-up and disposal contract at Port Hueneme, Port Mugu, Vandenberg Air Force Base and other affiliated military installations. The value of this contract extension is estimated to be in excess of $2.4 million, bringing the total value of the contract to approximately $4.7 million.
Grossman commented on the contract extension, saying, "Because the government has elected to extend the contract six months ahead of its regular schedule, the renewal confirms our ability to provide professional, cost-effective hazardous waste pick-up and removal services for the government sector. We believe that this market is significant in size and will continue to bolster the company's future growth."
Grossman noted that the company had recently sold its medical waste disposal business for approximately $5 million. A large portion of the proceeds will be used to expand the company's hazardous waste transport business and acquire an existing hazardous waste service facility.
"We have submitted bids in excess of $25 million on a variety of government military installation contracts with several of them in the final stages of evaluation. We will continue to aggressively market our services to this important market sector," said Grossman.
Security Environmental Systems, founded in 1972, disposes of hazardous waste and conducts interstate transportation of hazardous waste. The company operates from facilities in Garden Grove, Vernon and Long Beach, Calif. Most recently, the company has moved its New Mexico operations to Roswell, N.M.
