SECOND JAPANESE CONSTRUCTION COMPANY ORDERS CRAY RESEARCH SYSTEM
EAGAN, Minn., Oct. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Cray Research (NYSE: CYR) announced today that Tokyo-based Mitsui Construction Company has ordered and installed a CRAY Y-MP EL system, Cray Research's entry-level supercomputer system. In May of this year, Cray Research announced its first sale to the construction industry -- a CRAY Y-MP 2E system now installed at Tokyu Construction Co., Ltd., also in Tokyo.
"We are very pleased to see new markets like the construction industry open up for Cray Research in Japan and in other geographies, and we look forward to continued success with our full range of products throughout Japan," said Carl Diem, Cray Research vice president of worldwide sales and marketing.
Mitsui's new Cray Research system will be installed at the company's information systems facility, where it will be used for advanced technical analysis of structural and civil engineering problems related to the construction of buildings and other structures. Future applications will involve hydromechanical analysis, the study of fluid motion and equilibrium, as it relates to construction.
The CRAY Y-MP EL system will become the central computing resource of Mitsui's in-house network linking computers from other vendors for administrative work and more than 300 workstations and personal computers.
Currently, Cray Research has more than 350 systems installed worldwide, of which 12 CRAY Y-MP EL systems and 32 mid- to high-end Cray Research systems are installed at Japanese organizations.
Cray Research creates the most powerful, highest-quality computational tools for solving the world's most challenging scientific and industrial problems.
