SECOND ANNUAL VENTURE FAIR CONTEST SHOWCASES NEW IDEAS
 PENNSAUKEN, N.J., Jan. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- "Southern New Jersey's

second annual Venture Idea Fair is an excellent way for emerging businesses to find funding during the current economic downturn," said Maxine Ballen, executive director of the South Jersey Entrepreneurs Network, coordinator of five sponsoring organizations.
The fair will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 5, at the Holiday Inn/Bridgeport at Exit 10, Interstate 295, Pureland Industrial Park. But entrepreneurs wishing to enter the contest must act now. The deadline is Jan. 30 for entering business plans to the South Jersey Entrepreneurs Network, 5090 Central Highway, Suite 10, Pennsauken, N.J. 08109.
About 30 entrepreneurs submitted business plans for last year's Venture Fair contest, with products running the gamut from computer software to organic cosmetics to a stationary exercise swimming pool. More are expected to participate this year.
Seven judges from leading venture firms will critique entries in advance and select several finalists to give short presentations explaining their ideas. However, all entrants will be assigned space to display their products/services. And perhaps most important, all entrants will receive from the judges a written professional evaluation of their products/services and the feasibility of marketing them.
At the conclusion of the presentations, the judging panel will designate one entrant as "The Company Most Likely to Receive Funding." This designation will serve as an invaluable tool to the emerging company in search of product development funding.
Last year's judges' choice was Woodland Cryogenics, Inc. of Philadelphia. The company manufactures and installs cryogenic equipment. (Cryogenics is the branch of physics dealing with very low temperatures approaching absolute zero or minus 273 degrees Celsius.)
Those attending will also have an opportunity to vote on "The People's Choice" -- the company attendees believe has the best chance to succeed. The 1991 winner was Green Technologies of Philadelphia. The company manufactures and markets products made from recycled newsprint.
"Venture capitalists, investment bankers, accountants, attorneys, manufacturer reps and those interested in new business development should attend the fair," said Ballen. "Many of last year's participating companies represented extremely viable investment opportunities." About 200 attended the 1991 fair, also held in March.
Advance reservations are $20 with admission, $30 at the door. Refreshments will be served. For reservations or more information, call Ballen at 609-665-8877.
