SEARS TO OPEN FIRST HOMELIFE FURNITURE STORE IN LOUISVILLE

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Jan. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Sears will open a new Homelife furniture store here on Jan. 15 as the retailer expands its free-standing furniture store format. The 30,000-square-foot store will offer almost three times as much shopping space as the average furniture department in a typical Sears store.
Located on Hurstbourne Parkway between I-64 and Taylorsville Road, it is the first Homelife store Sears has opened in Louisville and the third in Kentucky. Sears earlier opened Homelife units in Florence in 1991 and Lexington in 1992.
Homelife features a broad assortment of private label and national brand name merchandise in attractively decorated room vignettes with theatrical touches. Merchandise includes top-quality furniture by Stanley, Broyhill, Schnadig and Flexsteel and bedding from Sealy, Simmons and Spring Air. Fully accessorized room settings let customers bring the same finished look to their homes, while the store's unique environment brings an element of fun to furniture shopping.
"Homelife carries the widest selection of quality brand name furniture we've ever offered to our customers," said John Solimine, divisional vice president for furniture. "We've created a high-profile, designer look in our Homelife stores with classic architectural elements and stylized decorative features with contemporary designs. Sears is proud to open our newest Homelife store in Louisville."
Later this year, space formerly used for furniture in Sears Jefferson Mall and Elzabethtown retail stores will be converted to provide space for the expanded presentation of women's, men's and children's apparel.
As part of grand opening festivities at the new Homelife unit, James Coveney, store manager, said the first 100 customers will be given special gifts. Additionally, a $1,000 Homelife shopping spree will also be awarded. Shoppers also can enter drawings for furniture, including a queen-size bedding set, chair-side chest, recliner, deacon's bench, accent chair, entertainment center and sleeper sofa.
