SEAGULL PURCHASES NATURAL GAS GATHERING SYSTEM
HOUSTON, June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Seagull Energy Corporation

(NYSE: SGO) announced today that it has purchased a 21-mile natural gas gathering system offshore Texas from a unit of Transco Energy Company.
Seagull paid Transco $6.2 million for the eastern section of the Brazos Area Gathering System, which presently gathers production from three offshore blocks, including one operated by Seagull. The acquired system can deliver approximately 125 million cubic feet of natural gas per day into the Central Texas Gathering System, which is owned by a group of interstate pipeline companies and operated by Transco.
"While this may look like a small acquisition, it is very strategic to the future movement of Seagull's own natural gas production from the Seagull Trend," declared Chairman Barry J. Galt. "After future minor expansion of the acquired system, we will be able to deliver production to many intrastate and interstate gas markets from new Seagull-operated Brazos area production facilities scheduled to go into service in late 1993.
"In fact," he added, "we had been planning to build a new pipeline of our own into this area next year to gather this new production. Now, with certain transportation agreements and the operational flexibility this system will afford us, plans for that new pipeline have been shelved."
The Seagull Trend comprises a large area off the central Texas coast where Seagull has been the most successful exploration company in finding new natural gas reserves.
In addition to its gas exploration, production and transmission activities, Houston-based Seagull is also engaged in natural gas distribution and processing. Transco Energy Company (NYSE: E) transports natural gas through its interstate pipeline systems to markets in the eastern and midwestern United States, arranges for the transportation and sale of natural gas throughout the United States, and is active in independent power generation and natural gas vehicle fueling services. Transco also maintains modest positions in other energy-related businesses.
