SEAGULL ENERGY CORPORATION ANNOUNCES NEW VICE PRESIDENT

HOUSTON, Dec. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Seagull Energy Corporation (NYSE: SGO) announced today that James A. Watt has joined the company's exploration and production subsidiary as vice president of exploration.
In his new assignment Watt will replace James G. Blankenship, who, having reached the age of 65, chose to relinquish his managerial responsibilities but continue to serve Seagull as a senior exploration consultant.
Watt comes to Seagull from Nerco Oil & Gas Inc., where he was vice president, exploration/exploitation. He began his career as a geophysicist for Amoco Production Company, than served for 17 years in a variety of managerial and geophysical positions with Union Texas Petroleum, before that company's domestic exploration and production assets were acquired by Nerco in 1991.
He holds as BS degree in physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.
"Jim Watt's 22 years of exploratory experience have been both offshore and onshore and in practically every major domestic gas and oil province," noted Seagull Chairman Barry J. Galt. "His evident skills as an explorationist and manager of large-scale exploratory programs are perfectly suited to our effort to sustain our historical record as a consistently successful explorer while accelerating the pace of that activity in the years ahead."
Galt richly praised the contributions of Blankenship. "He joined us in 1987 just as we were re-establishing our exploratory efforts after several years of relative inactivity. Our exploratory record since '87 speaks for itself and Jim Blankenship is certainly one of the principal architects of that success.
"Jim Watt has some sizable shoe to fill, buy he's up to the task, and best of all we will continue to have Jim Blankenship's expertise available to contribute to our on-going success," Galt continued.
In addition to its exploration and production activity, Houston- based Seagull is engaged in the transportation, distribution and marketing of natural gas, liquids products and petrochemicals, and natural gas processing.
