SEAGRAM APPOINTS ELLEN MARRAM AS PRESIDENT OF ITS BEVERAGE GROUP

 MONTREAL, April 14 /PRNewswire/ -- The Seagram Company Ltd. (NYSE: VO) today announced the appointment of Ellen R. Marram as president, the Seagram Beverage Group and executive vice president of the Seagram Company Ltd. and Joseph E. Seagram and Sons, Inc. Ms. Marram will serve as a member of the Office of the President and will report to Seagram's president and chief operating officer, Edgar Bronfman Jr. She will be based in New York.
 Mr. Bronfman noted that in her new capacity, Ms. Marram will operate with a global perspective and focus on expanding Seagram's non-alcohol beverage operations, as well as its low-alcohol brands through both existing and new franchises. Brands within the Seagram Beverage Group include Tropicana Pure Premium, the leading brand of orange juice in the United States; Tropicana Twister, a non-refrigerated juice beverage; Seagram's Coolers; and 2 Calorie Quest, a new flavored sparkling spring water.
 "Ellen obviously has a superb track record in marketing, sales and brand building. She will be instrumental in developing our business as we continue the expansion of our beverage strategy," said Mr. Bronfman. "She is an outstanding executive whose experience in running a multi- billion-dollar operation will provide valuable insight to our management group," he added.
 Reporting to Ms. Marram will be Myron A. Roeder, president of Tropicana Products, Inc.; Joseph J. Fisch Jr., president of the Seagram Beverage Company; Dr. William E. Riha, vice president of research and development; and Ellice Matsil, vice president, market research and information.
 Since 1988, Ms. Marram has been president of the Nabisco Biscuit Company, an operating unit of the Nabisco Foods Group. Under her leadership, the company has received several awards for innovative marketing and has had one of the most successful new product development records in the industry. Some of its recent successes include the line of SnackWell's low- and no-fat cookies and crackers, Mr. Phipps Pretzel and Tater Crisps and Fat Free Fig Newtons. In 1988, Nabisco also launched Teddy Grahams Graham Snacks, the most successful cookie introduction in the last 25 years.
 Ms. Marram began her career with positions at Lever Brothers before moving to Johnson & Johnson. She joined Standard Brands Incorporated in 1977 as a group product manager and subsequently became vice president of marketing for Standard Brands Foods. In 1981, when Standard Brands merged with Nabisco, Inc., to form Nabisco Brands, she was named vice president, marketing for the margarine division.
 In 1983, Ms. Marram became vice president of marketing, later executive vice president and, in 1987, president of the grocery division, with responsibility for a variety of well-known brands including A.1. Steak Sauce, Grey Poupon mustards, Shredded Wheat and Cream of Wheat cereals, and Milk-Bone pet snacks, as well as margarines. She also advanced to vice president, Nabisco Brands, and later that year became senior vice president, Nabisco Brands.
 A 1968 graduate of Wellesley College, she received her M.B.A. degree from Harvard University in 1970.
 Ms. Marram is a member of the board of directors of the Ford Motor Company, the Lincoln Center Theater and the Advertising Council.
 The Seagram Beverage Group, a unit of the Seagram Company Ltd., includes the global operations of Tropicana Products, Inc., and the Seagram Beverage Company. The group also provides research and development support for all Seagram divisions and business operations and provides market research information to certain operating units.
