SEAGATE 750GR DESKTOP HARD DRIVE WINS PRODUCT AWARD.

Seagate Technology (NYSE:STX), Scotts Valley, has announced that Barracuda 7200.10 drive, the world's first 750GB desktop PC hard drive, has won the prestigious 2007 PC World 20 Most Innovative Products Award.

Barracuda 7200.10 drive, the only hard drive to win the award, ranked number nine on PC World's list of top products that included cutting-edge operating systems, game consoles, all-in-one cellular telephones and laptop computers. The award comes just weeks after Barracuda 7200.10 drive, the first desktop hard drive to use capacity-boosting perpendicular recording technology, won PC Magazine's 23rd annual Technical Excellence Award for storage.

"Seagate is pleased to receive this tremendous recognition from PC World as we continue to focus on innovative technologies that make it easier for consumers and organizations to move, manage and store growing amounts of digital content," said Tom Major, acting general manager, Personal Compute, at Seagate.

The 2007 PC World 20 Most Innovative Products Awards recognize both benchmark and breakthrough products that set the standard for innovation with unique qualities that distinguish them from the pack. PC World's editors compared hundreds of products before narrowing the field to the 20 winners.

"These are among the most inventive and trend-setting products available, breaking the traditional boundaries while pushing the limits of technology," stated Harry McCracken, VP/editor-in-chief of PC World. "These winners help define industry standards and raise the bar for creativity in the future. Congratulations to Seagate's Barracuda 7200.10 drive."

Seagate remains the only hard drive maker to offer a 750GB desktop model after first shipping the 3.5-inch, 7200-RPM drive in April 2006. Barracuda 7200.10 drive's introduction marked the biggest capacity jump in the 50-year history of hard drives -- a 50 percent leap from the previous high of 500GB.

Seagate also stands alone in delivering perpendicular recording technology across desktop, notebook, enterprise, consumer electronics and retail hard drives. The technology stands data bits vertically onto the disc media, rather than horizontal to the surface as with traditional longitudinal recording, to deliver new levels of hard drive data density, capacity and reliability. The new data orientation also increases drive throughput without increasing spin speed by allowing more data bits to pass under the drive head in the same amount of time.
