SCRIPPS TO SELL BALTIMORE RADIO STATION

 CINCINNATI, July 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The E.W. Scripps Company has reached an agreement to sell Baltimore radio station WVRT-FM to Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc. of Raleigh, N.C., for $9.75 million.
 The station is operated through the company's 86 percent-owned subsidiary, Scripps Howard Broadcasting (NASDAQ: SCRP). WVRT offers a soft-rock format and is located at FM 104.3. Scripps has owned the station since 1980.
 On July 19, the company announced an agreement to sell its Memphis, Tenn., broadcast stations to Ellis Communications, Inc. of Atlanta for $65 million. Included in that sale are radio stations WMC-AM and WMC-FM and television station WMC-TV, an NBC affiliate. The sales are subject to approval by the Federal Communications Commission.
 The company also is negotiating the sale of its remaining radio station, KUPL-AM/FM in Portland, Ore., and expects to reach a final agreement in the near future.
 Following the sale of WMC-TV and the radio station group, the company's broadcast operations will include three NBC television affiliates, in Baltimore, West Palm Beach, Fla., and Tulsa, Okla.; three Fox affiliates, in Phoenix, Tampa, Fla., and Kansas City, Mo.; two ABC affiliates, in Detroit and Cleveland; and one CBS affiliate, in Cincinnati.
 The E.W. Scripps Company also operates 20 daily newspapers, cable systems with 679,000 subscribers, and is a worldwide syndicator and licenser of news features and comics.
