SCRIPPS RELEASES OCTOBER REVENUES

 CINCINNATI, Nov. 16 ~PRNewswire~ -- The E.W. Scripps Company (NYSE: SSP) today released its monthly revenue and statistical summary for October 1992. The E.W. Scripps Company operates 21 daily newspapers, 10 television stations, five radio stations, and cable television systems with 664,000 basic subscribers. The company also is a worldwide syndicator and licensor of news features and comics.

 (A) -- October 1992 had one more Friday and Saturday and one less Tuesday and Wednesday than October 1991. Also, since a strike began May 17, 1992, the Pittsburgh newspapers have been published only two days, July 27 and 28. Publication was suspended following the July 28 editions because of escalating violence and vandalism.
 (B) -- Includes licensing, syndication, book publishing, share of profits of JOA newspapers not managed by the company and commercial printing.
 (C) -- Includes television station WMAR (Baltimore) since May 30, 1991.
 (D) -- 1991 advertising inches exclude the Knoxville Journal ("Journal"). The Journal was published by the Knoxville News-Sentinel under a joint operating agreement which expired in December 1991.
