Deadline arrives Tuesday for festival submissions

The deadline for submissions to the Sam Bond's Short Film Festival is near.

Films or videos of 10 minutes or less must be submitted in MiniDV format by Tuesday. There is an entry fee of $5.

Submissions can be mailed to: SBFF, c/o Eugene Peaceworks, 454 Willamette St., Eugene, OR 97401. Checks should be made payable to Eugene Peaceworks.

Now in its third year, the festival takes place Sept. 10 at Sam Bond's Garage, 407 Blair Blvd. Proceeds from the event will benefit Eugene Peaceworks.

Archaeology film series continues on Saturday

The Best of the Archaeology Film Festival continues at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Downtown Initiative for the Visual Arts, 110 W. Broadway.

The screening features highlights from last year's festival, including "Viking Voyages," which examines how Nordic farmers became great seafarers, and "The Truth of Troy," about Manfred Korfmann's findings about the city of Troy.

Tickets are $6. The event continues with a final screening Sept. 15

Northwest Film Festival focusing in on Syria

The films of Syria from the 1970s to the present are the focus of a series that starts this month at Portland's Northwest Film Festival.

Lens on Syria: The Road to Damascus kicks off on Sept. 15 with a 7 p.m. screening of "The Duped," a 1972 film by Tewfik Saleh that follows three different journeys by three different men to present three different perspectives on the Palestinian experience. The movie also screens at 9 p.m. Sept. 16.

Other films in the series are being presented through Oct. 1 in Whitsell Auditorium, 1219 S.W. Park Ave., Portland. Tickets are $7.
